Just when you thought they’ve made bacon everything… The beloved food has gotten its own festival in Edmonton! The inaugural Bacon Fest Edmonton, celebrating all things bacon, will be held on July 4, 2014. Details about the the festival are available at baconfestyeg.ca. To celebrate, here’s a six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon style look at six popular bacon finds in Edmonton:

In the summer, the Bacon Caramels from The Local Omnivore food truck are something of a local delicacy. The smooth, buttery treats are perfect to snack on while wandering downtown or heading to a festival! Bacon lovers also won’t be able to resist…

…their famous Super Smoked Bacon. When The Local Omnivore‘s food truck isn’t in season, they’ll occasionally sell it through Acme Meat Market. When it’s in stock, don’t hesitate to grab a pack (or two)! And, while you’re at Acme, check out their selection of pork productions if you feel up to curing your own bacon. The Local Omnivore isn’t the only food truck in town that has an item so popular it has its own retail spin-off…

Sailin’ On‘s bacon doesn’t have any meat in it, but it’s just as delicious as regular bacon. Carnivores and vegans alike enjoyed the Vegan Coconut Bacon from the food truck so much that it became something of a legend in the local food scene. When the truck isn’t out and about, you can try to snag a bag of it at Earth’s General Store. If you’re a fan of bacon in alternative forms, don’t hesitate to try…

…The Peanut Butter and Bacon Jam Burger from Next Act Pub. Instead of strips of bacon, the burger patty — smothered in peanut butter — is topped with a savoury, made-in-house bacon jam. The nutty, sweet, and umami flavours create an irresistible taste sensation — give it a try, it’s not as weird as you might think. In fact, we’d say it’s one of the best in the city. This burger was so popular when it was sold exclusively through their food truck counterpart The Act that they added it to their regular menu. (Side note: The Act won’t be out and about in 2014 as the owners are working on opening a new restaurant, MEAT. It’s just a guess, but we think it’s safe to say they’ll be bacon on that menu.) Next Act isn’t the only restaurant with a food truck counterpart…

Smokehouse BBQ started as a food truck and evolved into a stand alone restaurant on 124 St. The menu is full of things to please bacon lovers, but none more so than the Bacon Bomb. It’s as intense as it sounds: a bacon-wrapped sausage loaf, smoked to a savoury perfection. The side of cornbread that comes with every meal is packed with bacon, too. Pair your meal with a Smokehouse Ceasar: this spicy classic cocktail is made with bacon infused vodka and comes garnished with a piece of smoked bacon. If you enjoy their salty Caesar, you’ll love the…

Bacon Sea Salt from Evoolution. This seasoning, prepared with roasted heritage breed bacon from Oyama Sausage Co. in British Columbia adds the perfect zest to savoury meals, or do as the retailer suggests and add it to popcorn, eggs, roasted potatoes, or dark chocolate.
