Edmonton is preparing for a white-out, and for once it’s not because of any snow.

Edmonton will host its inaugural Dîner en Blanc on Thursday July 17, 2014. Now hosted in over 50 cities around the world, this posh picnic was first held in Paris 25 years ago. Now, it’s recognized globally as an high class party with a focus on food, friends, and community.

Guests are asked to dress “elegantly” in all white clothing and bring along a table with a white table cloth, chairs, and a china dinner set that includes utensils and stemware. Guests can bring their own picnic or purchase a catered meal that will be prepared by Chef Paul Shufelt and Century Hospitality Group. A sea of white will blanket a beautiful outdoor area in the city for the titular “white dinner”.

A table for two, including the Dîner en Blanc international membership fee and other ticketing fees, will cost $83.50. The meal option will be an additional $40-$50.

The event venue will be kept secret (though it’s confirmed it will be outdoors, rain or shine) until the day of the event. Guests will be told to meet at various spots around the city where Dîner en Blanc hosts will then take them to the final location via either organized transit or by walking.

If you’re interested in attending Dîner en Blanc Edmonton, you must register for the wait list by June 23, 2014, after which invitations will be sent out on a first-come, first-served basis. Over 1,000 guests will be admitted. Register online at edmonton.dinerenblanc.info/register.
