  • Edmonton is the capital of the province of Alberta, the second largest metro area west of Toronto and the sixth largest city in Canada.
  • Edmonton is the largest city on the Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway, which accesses more national and provincial parks than any other route across western Canada.
  • Edmonton is situated on VIA Rail’s “The Canadian” route, which travels from Toronto to Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper and Vancouver.
  • The world’s longest crude oil pipeline is the Enbridge Pipelines Inc. (1950) connection from Edmonton to Buffalo, NY -a distance of 1,775 miles (2,856 km).

  • Edmonton has the longest stretch of urban parkland in North America -22 times larger than New York’s Central Park.
  • There are over 70 golf courses in Metro Edmonton including Victoria Golf Course, the oldest Municipal Golf Course in Canada (1907).
  • The Great Divide Waterfall on the High Level Bridge was created to commemorate Alberta’s 75th anniversary. At 60 metres, this constructed waterfall is 7.3 metres (24 feet) higher than Niagara Falls.

  • The marigold flower, selected as the official city symbol in 1964, represents sunny Alberta and Edmonton’s role in the Klondike Gold Rush. Like the marigold, which has many varieties, Edmonton’s population is made up of more than 50 ethnic groups.
  • Visitors are assured of plenty of sun and beautiful blue Alberta skies during their visit, regardless of the season. The city averages 12.32 hours of sunshine daily - making it one of the sunniest cities in Canada. At the height of summer, there are up to 17 hours of daylight each day.
