About: The titular aardvark on the children’s TV show Arthur always said that “having fun isn’t hard, when you’ve got a library card!” That’s never been more true with the opening of the Makerspace in Edmonton’s main public library. The space is a great place to get creative with a 3D printer, Espresso book printing machine, gaming consoles, music editing software, green screen and video editing software, Lego Mindstorm Robotics, a MaKey MaKey invention kit, and dozens of design software programs.

2. Saturday Morning All You Can Eat Cereal Party
Date: Saturday, April 19, 10 am
Cost: $10 Adult, $8 Senior/Student, $6 Child (Cost includes cereal)
Location: Metro Cinema
About: Put on your PJs and re-live the nostalgia of when Saturday mornings meant hours of fun watching the latest cartoon shows! Programmed for all ages, the cereal will be all-you-can-eat and the cartoons (from the 70s and 80s) will play for over 2 hours.

3. Tragic Heroes Film Series

Location: Fort Edmonton Park
About: Enjoy some of the most classic, talked-about films of all time on the big screen in the historic, one-room Capitol Theatre! Screening this month are Bonnie and ClydeButch Cassidy and the Sundance KidTitanic, and The Public Enemy.

4. Craft Fairs + Art Markets
Dates: April 11 – 13, 26
Cost: $10 or less for admission
Location: Various Venues
About: Pay a nominal admission fee and spend some time browsing locally made goods like jewellery, clothing, accessories, food, and home decor in a lively setting with live music and a great community atmosphere.

5. Bonfire Improv Festival
Dates: April 8 – 12
Cost: $10 per show ($25 for a festival pass)
Location: Citadel Theatre
About: Rapid Fire Theatre’s annual improv festival brings together the best local talents to present a variety of hilarious long-form comedy shows, drawing inspiration from some favourite performances from the current season. This year’s festival includes shows inspired by Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Bruce Springsteen.

8. Gallery Tour with Lyndal Osborne

Location: Art Gallery of Alberta
About: See one of the newest exhibits at the gallery as explained by the artist herself! Join nationally renowned Edmonton artist Lyndal Osborne as she leads a special tour of her new AGA exhibition, Bowerbird, Life as Art. Osborne will discuss her nearly 40-year career, sharing the stories behind the artworks on display. From her print work from the mid-1970s to her critically acclaimed, large-scale sculptural installations of present day, there’s lots to see!

9. Edmonton Poetry Festival

Location: Various Venues
About: Blink poetry? Spoken word? Poetry is more than just writing rhymes! See a variety of poetry readings, mingle with some of the brightest literary talents in Edmonton,  try creating an original poem yourself, enjoy live music, and discover something new to read. You don’t have to “like” or “get” poetry to attend this festival — the programming is accessible for everyone. If you haven’t been to this festival before, we recommend trying out Laugh Lines or Dead Poets Society.

10. Romeo + Juliet

Cost: Pay What You Can (Sunday, April 6 ONLY)
Location: Citadel Theatre
About: Participants of the 2014 Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program perform Shakespeare’s famous play about the tragic love story between two lovers from feuding families. Tickets normally start at $35, but for one day only, you can buy tickets for any price you can offer, thanks to Servus Credit Union. Tickets are available beginning at 3 pm on a first come, first serve basis. Each person can buy one ticket.
