Fresh off an impressive showing at the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Future Station: 2015 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art, we caught up with this local installation artist to see what’s next.

Q: What are you currently working on?
A: I am currently organizing my files from my past projects and getting my studio cleaned. Then I can get to a project I’ve been planning for the past two years or so… but I don’t want to give too much detail and jinx it!

Q: Where do you find your inspiration for new projects?
A: Drawing, making things, and taking baths inspire me. Other artists inspire me too, but more in a “spur one another on to greatness” sense.

Q: Where is the one place you would love to have your work displayed?
A: I would love to do a temporary art installation in Antarctica like Lita Albuquerque who was the first artist to install her work there. She installed 99 massive blue orbs on the ground that were aligned with the stars above.

Q: What is it like being a working artist in Edmonton? Is there a lot of support for you?
A: From talking to other artists, I think it’s pretty similar to being an artist in any other Canadian city with varying degrees of support and isolation. In my own experience however, I have found that Edmonton does have a good scaffolding system for artists and there are a lot of possibilities if you work hard.

Q: What did you want to be when you were a kid? An artist?
A: A hairdresser, because I was told you only had to go to school for one year (I was not impressed by the educational system as a 7-year-old.
