From having your pants scared off at a haunted house to enjoying some subtly spooky family fun, your options are nearly endless for Halloween-themed activities to enjoy in the month of October! Get in the Halloween spirit at one of these ghostly events.

1. Deadmonton House | Through November 5
Face your darkest fears at one of the creepiest experiences in Edmonton. You can never be too sure whether you imagined that hand on your shoulder as a team of scare specialists do their best to chill you. The final weekend is their popular Flashlights Only event—one light per group in complete darkness. Do you dare?

2. Pumpkin Patch Pyramids | October 29 | 11 am – 3 pm
Enjoy a scary good time at the Muttart Conservatory’s annual Halloween party! Make a creepy craft, have your face painted, or take in the other family-friendly activities like a scavenger hunt! And don’t forget to check out the ‘Curse of the Chrysanthemummies’ in the feature pyramid, complete with mummies and hieroglyphs.

3. DEDFest | October 17–22
This annual film festival showcases a selection of blood-curdling, suspenseful independent feature-length and short horror, cult, and sci-fi films from around the world. Check out the schedule here!

4. Dial R for Refinery | October 28
The darker side of the Art Gallery of Alberta will come out to play at this pre-Halloween late-night art party! Reflect on morality and mortality, solve a mystery, and check out impressive installations from local designers while enjoying appetizers and drinks alongside the gallery’s current thought-provoking exhibits.

5. Haunted Pumpkin Festival | Sat – Sun through October 30 | 9 am – 6 pm
Take your kids out to Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm for endless Halloween fun! Cool activities include the infamous pumpkin cannon, pumpkin carving, scarecrow building, a haunted house, and so much more.

6. Hospital of Horror | Through November 6
Test your nerve in a new kind of haunted house! Grab a buddy and don goggles, headphones, and a battery backpack to become fully immersed in the abandoned virtual reality hospital. Explore creepy rooms, but stay vigilant—you’re not alone.

7. Edmonton Ghost Tours | Through November 1 | 7 pm & 9 pm
For just $10-15 per soul, you can go on an educational and spooky tour of Edmonton to learn about some of its dark and supernatural history. At 7 pm, meet in front of the Rescuer statue at Walterdale Playhouse for a tour of the Whyte Ave. and Old Strathcona area. Or, at 9 pm, meet in front of Rutherford House for a tour of the University of Alberta and Garneau area. Both have many chilling stories to reveal!

8. Halloween Movies at Metro Cinema | Through October 31
One of the best ways to get your Halloween-chill fix is to take in a scary movie, but some movies are too frightening to take in alone at home. So head to the theatre and see a scary flick in the safety of others! Features include Dawn of the Dead (1978), House on Haunted Hill, and more leading up to Halloween night. 9. Halloween Theatresports | October 27 | 7:30 pm & 10 pm
Edmonton’s renowned improv comedy troupe Rapid Fire Theatre performs Theatresports weekly, where teams of talented improvisers do their best to win over the audience in a series of improv challenges. Halloween night will have them playing with a special Halloween theme, so come dress in your ghoulish best!

10. Spooktacular | October 21, 27 & 28
Prepare to be haunted by the past at Fort Edmonton Park! In a time when people still believed in superstitions and scientists performed mad experiments in the name of medicine, you’ll explore creepy shops and disturbing finds. Families can enjoy a ghostly good time with crafts, games, and more on October 21, while brave adults can attend on October 27 & 28 for the 18+ event.
