Pains of Youth
The psychological drama by Ferdinand Bruckner (translated by Martin Crimp) follows a group of 1920s medical students in Vienna struggling with the same issues all generations of twenty-somethings face: Hooking up. Breaking up. To pursue or abandon commitments. But with the stench of the war and disease of the decade before still hanging in the air and the dark spectre of fascism looming large on the horizon, what kind of future was there to look forward to? Director and University of Alberta Drama Professor Kim McCaw says the challenging play has struck a chord with the cast comprised of students from the 2014 BFA Acting class. “There are troubling parallels between the world of the young medical students in the play and the world of the thousands of students that surround me everyday here on campus. Today’s generation of students face a more uncertain future than any other generation in recent memory…holding on to hope and optimism is increasingly difficult for this talented and highly trained cohort.”

Pig Girl
Tragedy turns to hope in this supernatural suspense, when a kidnapped woman struggles to regain her life from a serial killer while her desperate sister and a haunted police officer reach across time and distance to try and rescue her.
