Do you and your kids always have your noses pointed to the sky in awe? The Department of Physics Astronomical Observatory at the University of Alberta (located in The Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science) will be holding public viewings until April 7. Solar observing happens on Wednesdays from 12:30–1:30 pm, and evening observing on Thursdays from 8–9 pm. Solar observing is open for drop-in, while visitors for evening observing must reserve a free ticket from Eventbrite.

4) Art Gallery of Alberta

Enjoy free admission for students and children under 18 at the Art Gallery of Alberta! Take your little ones through current exhibits or check out the events calendar to see what’s on. Events running during spring break include the Spring ArtBreak Camp, Art Hive, and Stroller Tours. Mark your calendars—the last Thursday of every month offers free admission for everyone from 4–7 pm!

5) Edmonton River Valley Trails

Did you know that Edmonton’s River Valley is about 22 times larger than New York City’s Central Park? Edmonton is home to beautiful walking trails throughout the river valley. Take your kids for a stroll through nature’s most beautiful as you discover all of spring’s wonders: blooming flowers, blossoming trees, and the fresh sound of a melting river. The best part? It’s free!

6) Hawrelak Park

The weather is warming up, so this calls for an early start to spending time outdoors. Hawrelak Park covers 68 hectares and features open meadows and a 5-hectare lake. That’s plenty of room to run around and enjoy the fresh air! With Edmonton’s unpredictable weather, you can rest assured knowing that no matter the conditions, there is a way to make the most of it! Still snow on the ground? Dress your kids warmly and bring some snowshoes or warm boots and send off winter in a fun way. Snow melted? Welcome spring by discovering the new-growing grass while running around in the sun!
