1. Edmonton Ghost Tours in Old Strathcona | Aug 13-15
Embark on a ghostly walking tour through Old Strathcona to hear the area’s true stories of ghosts, haunting, murders, and mysteries. Tour is all outside, so lots of space for social distancing. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Tickets are only $15 and we recommend booking ahead.
2. The Fringe That Never Was | Aug 13-23
Join for a digital celebration of art, community, and togetherness (even when we’re apart). Settle in for 11 days of digital Fringe shows, interviews, parties, and more featuring some of your fave Fringe artists. And if you able to, they are asking for donations so that the Fringe can be back for 2021!
3. Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the Art Gallery of Alberta | Aug 15
Music and art come together this summer! The Art Gallery of Alberta has partnered with Edmonton Symphony Orchestra to present weekly performances. Join every Thursday at 5pm and every Saturday at 3pm to enjoy these mini-concerts. To help manage capacities and keep everyone safe, pre-booking is required. This week the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra presents a chamber music performance of The Mendelssohn Octet.
4. French Quarter Patio Series | Aug 14
The annual French Quarter Patio Series features renowned performers presenting a wide variety of music every Friday evening. La Cité Francophone and Café Bicyclette present the ideal concert setting for both indoor and outdoor concerts with plenty of space for maintaining social distancing guidelines. Tickets are $12/person and you need to purchase in advance as there is limited seating available.
5. Alberta Open Farm Days | Aug 15-16
Alberta Open Farm Days is about farmers and ranchers inviting their urban and rural neighbors to stop in for a visit to share stories, see demonstrations, and learn more about the farmers who grow their food. As well, some of Alberta’s most talented chefs and rural communities will be hosting a memorable series of farm-to-table culinary events that will be held around the province using Alberta farm products.
6. Ukrainian Days Online Festival | Aug 16-24
The annual Ukrainian Day festival has been reshaped into a week-long celebration online! The festival will be split into 5 distinct series:
ART – Exclusive interviews with the artists (pottery, bead work, pysanky, embroidery) and an original masterclass.
PERFORMANCE – Dance master classes on different styles and a feature live dance performance; Ukrainian band performing exclusively for the Ukrainian Days festival.
COOKING – Master classes lead by two talented Ukrainian chefs and live Q&A.
ROOTS – Unique series featuring the art of homesteading, entrepreneurial stories; original videos and interviews with outstanding Ukrainian individuals in Alberta; children’s storytelling.
ДЕНЬ НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТІ (Ukrainian Independence Day)– Videos about Ukraine’s independence and exclusive greetings from Ukraine, local vocal and musical talents performing modern content.
7. The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! | through to Sept 6
This exhibition at the TELUS World of Science Edmonton presents an extraordinary collection of intriguing objects and astonishing artifacts from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Marvel at the height of the tallest man that ever lived. See a calf with two faces, a megalodon shark jaw, a Rolls Royce made of matchsticks, a portrait of Einstein made of toast, and more—including the life and legacy of Robert Ripley, the explorer and adventurer!
