Don’t miss the Grindstone’s Re-Set Theatre Festival!

Make the most of these final days of summer with some events, attractions, and entertainment this weekend! Plus, you can check out our Events Calendar to find even more events happening throughout the weekend and beyond.

1) Comedy Shows

Laughter is truly the best medicine and that’s why we recommend heading to Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club and/or The Comic Strip this weekend.

Join Steve McGowan (Aug 20-23) as he brings a fun and exciting standup experience to the stage with his likeable and commanding presence. Combining observational stories of the day to day with tales of past relationships and today’s single life, Steve has an energetic cheeky rage that audiences enjoy. Being open and honest, he has a wild frat boy style of comedy and makes it feel like a party where everyone is welcome.

Often described as a high-energy performer and a crowd favourite, Sterling Scott (Aug 21-22)  has become one of comedy’s rising stars. Sterling’s material stems from his experiences with relationships, family, being a father, current events, his outlook on life and the world, and those awkward moments that people from all walks of life can relate to.

2) Thoroughbred Racing at Century Mile | Aug 21 & 23

Experience the thrill of live horse racing from the best seats in the house! Watch from the Finish Line Restaurant or enjoy patio seating in the Outdoor Apron with a fully serviced bar along the finish line. Reservations are required.

3) Outdoor Attractions

Don’t let the summer pass by without visiting these outdoor attractions before they close for the season!
— The University of Alberta Botanic Garden includes 240 acres of flora and fauna to explore.
— The Edmonton Valley Zoo is home to more than 350 exotic, endangered, and native animal species, — At Jurassic Forest, you can walk among life-size, startlingly realistic dinosaurs in a 40-acre prehistoric park.
— With over 100 games and challenges, Snow Valley Aerial Park is fun for the whole family.

4) An In-Person Festival?!

For those missing the summer festival season in Edmonton the new Re-set Theatre Festival (Aug 19-30) is a chance to experience community around theatre, improv, stand-up comedy, and sketch comedy. The festival will also be live-streamed for patrons to enjoy from home. Check their website for the full calendar of shows!

5) Online Festivals

This is the last weekend to enjoy the virtual Fringe Festival & Ukrainian Days Festival.

With The Fringe That Never Was (through to Aug 23), settle in for digital Fringe shows, interviews, parties, and more featuring some of your fave Fringe artists. And if you able to, they are asking for donations so that the Fringe can be back for 2021!

The annual Ukrainian Days Festival (through to Aug 24) has been reshaped into a week-long celebration online! The festival will be split into 5 distinct series: Art, Performance, Cooking, Roots & ДЕНЬ НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТІ (Ukrainian Independence Day).

6) Hush Burlesque Presents: Fringe FOMO | Aug 21

Join House of Hush Burlesque for a Fringe FOMO party! Come out for a night of decadent, playful escapism with a nod to the past, and help close out summer with glitter, tease, and joy. 18+, no minors.
