A wonderland of winter magic awaits!

Ice on Whyte is Edmonton’s biggest annual ice carving festival and one of only three major ice carving competitions in Canada. 96,000 lbs of specially-crafted, crystal-clear carving ice are brought in especially for the festival. Traditionally an international event, the competition has pivoted during the pandemic to exclusively spotlighting the best in Canadian talent. This year’s roster includes nine carvers and two snow sculptors from across the country, bringing their wealth of imagination and skills to the Ice on Whyte sculpture tent at McIntyre Park. After dark, the sculptures and the surrounding park come alive with light and colour for an awe-inspiring winter display.

There’s lots of ice-carving fun to go around: you can watch expert carvers at work with live demonstrations, or even join in on the fun! Participate in carving classes for kids and adults with the Big and Lil’ Chippers workshops, where the whole family can try this fun and challenging craft. Stay warm and cozy during your adventures with fire pits  and a heated tent nearby. Steps away from the park is Whyte Avenue, with lots of options for family dining before or after you enjoy the festival.

Ice on Whyte runs from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6 at Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park. Tickets are available at the gate or ahead of time online. Purchase your tickets and find out more at iceonwhyte.ca.
