It’s Family Day long weekend! How are you celebrating time with your loved ones? We’ve compiled a list of Family Day activities happening in Edmonton this weekend for you to check out.

Bread and Circus: The Calzone Experience | Feb. 18

This virtual performance fundraiser and cooking class will bring you the best of entertainment and food in the comfort of your own home! This Friday, learn to bake an Italian Calzone with the chefs at Get Cooking. When you aren’t baking, you will get to enjoy performances by Albertan circus artists, dancers, and musicians. You can also turn this event into some family fun. After all, who doesn’t like the bond that brings the family together through baking? Tickets are available online and will include the performance, cooking class, and a recipe card for you to pick out your ingredients.

The Frozen Princess Bride | Feb. 19

Dinner theatre for kids? Yes, please! The Jubilations Dinner Theatre is hosting this production with meals designed to keep your young ones in mind. It is a 2-act kid-friendly musical comedy that features a 3-course lunch of a fresh veggie plate, a choice of lunch entrées, and a selection of ice cream. The show starts at 11 am. Tickets are available online.

Hitting Stuff: High Information Music for Children | Feb. 20

Sticks and Stone is a Canadian percussion trio inspired by marimba-band sounds. They are bringing you a fun afternoon at the Maclab Centre where you and your kids will be taken on a journey through different styles of music using the marimba and other unique percussion instruments. It is an interactive show that will be sure to leave you tapping your foot to the beat as you take in wondrous sounds. Tickets are available through the Leduc Public Library or the Maclab Centre box office.

Fort Saskatchewan Family Day Weekend | Feb. 20-21

Spend some quality time with your loved ones this family day out in Fort Saskatchewan, just half an hour out of Edmonton. On Sunday, take part in free activities at West River’s Edge from 11 am to 2:30 pm. The day will feature fun activities such as snow paint (using snow paint to create masterpieces on fresh snow) and hockey accuracy shot. Hockey equipment will be provided and a $50 gift card to a local restaurant is up for grabs for the most accurate shooter. If you plan to go skating, be sure to bring your own skates. On Monday, splash into the Harbour Pool from 1:30-4:30 pm for a free family day public swim!

EPL Family Day Events | Feb. 21

The Edmonton Public Library is hosting different events for your family this weekend. Each branch will have family-friendly in-person activities to complete on-site or take home. Activities vary between locations and there is no registration required. Two online events are available for those who want to stay home on Monday. The “Whodunnit” event challenges you and your little ones to put your investigation skills to the test and solve a mystery. A free kit with all the materials you need to solve the mystery is included when you register. “Family Day Storytime with Anna and Waddles” is the second online event hosted by EPL. Anna, Waddles, and Bobbles the Penguin will read “Connor McMoose and the Lonely Birthday.” No registration is required for the event and links are available on EPL’s YouTube channel.

Family Week at Telus World of Science | Until Feb. 21

This family day at Edmonton’s Telus World of Science, be the first to check out Your NEW Science Centre! Prepare for some super cool programs to pique the interest of your young ones (and you). Do you have a future astronaut in the family? Head over to the S.P.A.C.E. Gallery to test your coordination in activities such as the hand-eye coordination maze activity and distortion googles challenge. What about a future bioengineer? Take your kids to The Science Garage so they can create their very own antibody to make a giant 3D virus disappear—their innovation is needed right about now. There are also three other programs such as Healthy You, Trading Centre, and Under Pressure, each with their own bodies of knowledge to bring to the table. Silver Skate Festival | Until Feb. 21

The Silver Skate Festival is still on and will make for the perfect family fun day. You’ll be able to enjoy different activities and events ranging from arts and culture, live music, and of course, skating. Hawrelak Park has Edmonton’s largest skating pond that will be the hub of the festivities. Be sure to check out the events calendar to see what activities are on each day. Notable activities for families include snow sculpting, frisbee on skates, and Silver Skate singalong. You’ll also get the opportunity to learn about Indigenous oral histories.

All-Canadian Winter | Until March. 13

Are you ready for some Edmonton family day winter fun? The University of Alberta Botanic Garden is hosting winter activities that everyone can enjoy each weekend until mid-March. You can take on some friendly competition by taking part in kicksledding, snowshoeing, hockey puck shoot, or snowball toss. You can also stroll through the garden for a winter walk, enjoy live music in the Kurimoto Japanese Garden, or try cabane à sucre (maple taffy). This Saturday and Sunday will feature ice carving lessons with the Lil Chippers program from 12-4:30 pm. All gear is provided to ensure that you can safely create your own masterpiece. Advance registration is required when purchasing your admission ticket to the Garden.
