Long-time fringers and local company Straight Edge Theatre presented another new musical this year at La Cité Francophone (read our list of recommendations here!), and producers Bethany Hughes and Stephen Allred share some thoughts about the 2022 season, which runs until August 21.
1. What’s been the best part so far of Fringe 2022?
Being back in-person and seeing friends and other artists. Virtual theatre is not the same. There is something magical about being in the space together.
2. How long have you been participating in Edmonton’s Fringe?
Straight Edge has been participating in Fringe for the last 8 years. Before that, both Bethany and Stephen were avid Fringe supporters.
3. What keeps you coming back?
Fringe has a great energy and is a great opportunity to showcase our work. The community and the atmosphere is one-of-a-kind.
4. What is something audiences may not know about your show?
The show is an original work, created by local artists Stephen Allred, Seth Gilfillan, and Michael Clark. It took almost a year of writing and musical collaboration to complete book, lyrics, and score. This is also Straight Edge Theatre’s third original musical.
5. What other Fringe shows are on your must-see list?
Stephen and Bethany’s list includes
Ride the Cyclone,
Fake ‘n’ Bake,
Crack in the Mirror,
The Pansy Cabaret, and
