Designed by Edmonton architect William Blakey, the Garneau Theatre was built in 1940, making it 75 years old this year! The theatre’s known several different owners in its  time, and today is the home of  Metro  Cinema. The film society is honouring  the Garneau Theatre’s history this month with some signature events that highlight both the theatre’s past and future. Here are some of the unique  events you won’t want to miss:

Flash Bash!  |  Sep 19 | 7 pm
Wish the Garneau Theatre a very happy  birthday at this retro party where guests can battle it out at the silent auction and take selfies at a sci-fi photo booth! The night will feature a screening of the fun classic Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe.

Saturday Morning All-You-Can-Eat-Cereal Cartoon Party  | Sep 19  | 10 am
This sugar-fuelled tradition is back this month with more nostalgic cartoon programming from the 70s and 80s! Hop out of bed, keep your PJs on, and head to the Garneau to eat all the cereal your sweet tooth can handle.
