Park After Dark

by Becky Hagan-Egyir

Experience the thundering sound of horses racing against time in Edmonton this summer. Worldwide racing of horses has been a longstanding tradition since the age of gladiators in the Roman Empire. Today, the races at Northlands Park will allow you to watch an age old event take place at its bright, modern racetrack. Watch as clouds of dust rise beneath the clobber of hoofs on the track, the shade from the roof over the bleachers cooling your rising temperature as victorious cheers erupt in waves from the crowd! Races take place on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30 pm and Saturday afternoons at 1:00 pm. There will also be barn tours this summer to see the champion horses every Saturday (these must be booked in advance online).

Sport your best vest or fanciest hat at the 85th Canadian Derby on August 16th — the largest event of its kind in Western Canada! General admissions will be free, but you can also take your experience up a notch with special VIP packages.

Don’t miss Park After Dark on Fridays from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Relax on the Northlands patio while sipping a nice cool bourbon on a balmy evening, and enjoy a variety of appetizing delights with  friends as a mix of party tunes plays in the background.

See you there!
