Comedian and actress Amy Poehler once said that improv is comedy’s cousin and that it’s best done live… or something like that. But this Parks and Recreation star got the gist of it right: the two go hand in hand and it’s definitely best seen live.

This summer in Edmonton you can see both improv and comedy in action at the 2014 Improvaganza Festival — Canada’s largest improv festival — where laughter will reign from June 18 – 28. The festival plans to go the extra mile to put a smile on your face or as Rapid Fire Theatre (the festival organizer) puts it, Improvaganza will accomplish the following: “tickle your funny bone like it’s never been tickled before.”

At the 14th edition of this alternative comedy fest, talent from across North America and beyond will make this their mission with acts like Kurt Braunohler, who’s performed at many festivals including Bonnaroo and at iconic spots like Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Or there’s comedic musician and Juno-nominated talent BA Johnston who’s been known to create some oddly moving thoughts about topics like “aliens, monsters, and refusing to cat sit for your Mother”. There’ll also be opportunities for you to learn a thing or two at public workshops hosted by the stars of this fest. It all takes place at the Citadel Theatre just off of Churchill Square downtown.
