Shipyard-inspired decor and colourful art abound.

If the East Coast is what you’re craving, the place to be is Blowers & Grafton. Their cheeky approach to Halifax street food by way of Alberta makes for good times all around, whether you’re swinging by their established Whyte Avenue restaurant or their new Windermere location.

On the menu, you’ll find a whole host of Nova Scotia staples, including pizza, seafood, and donair. Be prepared: the Haligonians are much more strict about their donair fillings. Don’t expect to find any lettuce in there! Nevertheless, you can enjoy the donair in a variety of forms, from the standard wrap to pizza to loaded nachos. When it comes to seafood, no need to worry about getting bogged down in extra breading. Their haddock, clams, scallops, and more are light and flavourful even when fried. The fact that their ingredients are imported right from the east coast is definitely a major contributor to the fresh, authentic taste.

The great food is enhanced by the restaurant’s chic atmosphere. The interiors evoke the industrial yet warm aesthetic of downtown Halifax: ropes, barrels, and exposed brick are juxtaposed with slick neon and modern, colourful murals. Live musicians performing weekly bring the space to life with the music of the Maritimes, guaranteed to get you dancing. And yet by far the most enjoyable thing about the Blowers & Grafton experience is how warm and welcoming the staff are—to use the old cliche, you really do feel like family there.

Blowers & Grafton is open every day of the week; you can check daily hours and explore their menu on their website.
