Teatro Live! (formerly Teatro La Quindicina) has been bringing excellent and engaging theatre to Edmonton since 2009 and their latest double-bill is no exception. The Exquisite Hour and Love is for Poor People (both written by resident playwright Stewart Lemoine) take audiences on a journey that is equal parts uproarious and heartwarming. These two pieces are touching meditations on love, relationships, and the passage of time. Spend the evening in the capable hands of Teatro Live’s artistic team, we promise you won’t regret it!

Love is for Poor People, Stewart Lemoine’s first-ever one woman show, opens this engaging night of theatre. Rachel Bowron dazzles as Her, the glamorous narrator. Decked out in jewels and a luxurious red dress, Bowron leads audiences through her eventful and romantic life–even though she hasn’t lived it yet. Featuring calls from future ex-lovers coupled with several glasses of champagne, Love is for Poor People is a perfect cocktail of sparkling wit and playful nostalgia.

For the second act of the evening, audiences will delight in one of Stewart Lemoine’s most celebrated shows. The Exquisite Hour opens in Zachary Teale’s (Mat Busby) backyard, as he waters his flowers and enjoys a refreshing glass of lemonade. His evening is interrupted by Helen Darimont (Jenny McKillop), a kind and intriguing stranger who politely requests an hour of Mr. Teale’s time. By asking one simple question–”are you satisfied with what you know?”– Mrs. Darimont launches The Exquisite Hour into action. Heartwarming, smart, and downright hilarious, this play is a crowd-favourite for a reason!

The Exquisite Hour and Love is for Poor People are on at the Varscona Theatre until March 5. Get your tickets now!
