Experience the sights of the season at Candy Cane Lane 2020!

Do you hear that? The sound of jingle bells is getting closer and closer—and there are countless ways to spice up the season in Edmonton, from outdoor fun to markets that offer endless possibilities for making a loved one feel special. Cozy up and enjoy these uniquely Edmonton events in the warmth of your own home or on YEG’s snowy streets!

1) Opening weekend of Candy Cane Lane
We all know when the season really kicks into gear: when everyone breaks out their seasonal lights and decorates the streets with dazzling displays of holiday cheer. Take a cruise down Edmonton’s star roadside attraction, featuring light displays from the yards of volunteers and residents who have been dedicated for nearly 50 years. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no pedestrian access and all Edmonton Food Bank donations can be made online.

2) Snowshoe & Stargaze | Dec 12 (and other Saturdays!)
With a wilderness like we have here in Alberta, it would be a shame not to take advantage of the natural sights we have right on our doorstep. Elk Island National Park provides the chance to escape the city and explore the hiking trails and night sky of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve with help from experienced guides. This peaceful walk about a local winter wonderland makes cuddling up by the bonfire all the sweeter!

3) 20th Annual Silent Night Christmas Concert | beginning Dec 13
All is calm and bright with this online iteration of the 20th Annual Silent Night Christmas Concert! In support of the Edmonton Food Bank, this digital event features performances showcasing both the traditional and modern sides of this holiday season! Performances by world-class musicians and local Central European choirs filmed in the historic Convocation Hall bring a unique audio-visual spectacle right to the comfort of your living room!

4) Wholly Handmade Market | through Dec 16
Have a list of loved ones to find gifts for this season, but want to support local businesses right here in Edmonton? Worry not: Wholly Handmade Market features local artisans offering everything from home decor to bath and body products! From the self-care fiend to the self-proclaimed foodie, there’s something for every special someone you’re shopping for this season. While this market is usually in person, it has now been moved online. Check out the Facebook page for artisan listings.

5) Final weekend of the Canadian Online Jazz Festival
Ya like jazz? Bee Movie references aside, the Canadian Online Jazz Festival brings the art of the genre right to your living room, as the TD Edmonton International Jazz Festival joins forces with jazz festivals across the country for the first-ever online, cross-Canada event of its kind. Audiences can experience two performances every night from artists that represent each of the style’s many niches, offering a musical learning experience like no other.

6) No Menorah Lit Alone | through Dec 17
This series of virtual Chanukah celebrations ensures everyone has someone to light their menorah with, whether they are self-isolating or keeping their bubble small. Every night, a special guest will be invited to light the Shamash and spread some Chanukah joy.
