Good friends, great music, and community spirit… that’s what YEG’s all about! Here’s what’s on in Edmonton this weekend!

1) Simply Symphony Under the Sky | August 26–September 5
The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is back in Hawrelak Park, performing Hollywood hits and festival favourites for the return of their Symphony Under the Sky concert series! This is the first time that the whole ESO has performed together since March 2020. Catch them live for an unforgettable evening of music! Tickets are available through the ESO website.

2) The Rainbow Boys | August 27
In this 1973 film, a down-on-his luck prospector and his widowed companion encounter a man from New York who claims to know the location of hidden gold mines in the British Columbian interior. The trio set off on an unlikely adventure to find the gold and make their fortune. The film is showing for one night only at the Metro Cinema inside the Garneau Theatre; you can purchase your tickets online.

3) Vignettes Summer Dance Party | August 27–28
Vignettes and the Backyard invite you to bid summer a fond farewell with an all-out, two-day dance party! Enjoy great live music, on-site food trucks, and the unveiling of two brand-new murals in The Backyard’s event space! Purchase your tickets online; this is an 18+ event only.

4) NWESS Summer Sale | August 27–28
The North West Edmonton Seniors’ Society is holding a summer sale! Find gently-used homewares, jewelry, knitting, and more, as well as canned preserved for your fall and winter baking. All proceeds go to supporting the NWESS and the programs it provides to seniors in our community.

5) Todd Ness | August 27–28
Todd Ness is one of Canada’s fastest rising comedy stars, having opened for numerous big names in comedy and holding the title of Yuk Yuk’s Funniest Comedian of 2014. He’s back at Yuk Yuk’s for a weekend of laughs! Get your tickets through the Yuk Yuk’s website.

6) YEG Pottery Market | August 28
This pottery market features 10 talented artisans from the Edmonton region, selling everything from bowls and mugs to paint palettes and home decor. The market runs out of the Oil & Birch downtown studio. Admission is free; payment is cash or e-transfer only.

7) Scottish Highland Gathering | August 28
Enjoy a day of music, sport, and all things Scot as the Edmonton Scottish Society hosts its annual Highland Gathering! Events include Scottish dance competitions, feats of strength like the caber toss, and sheepdog competitions. Lots of traditional Scottish food will also be available to enjoy all day long!

8) Dirty Deeds DDC: The AC/DC Experience | August 28
The ultimate AC/DC tribute band is coming to Century Casino this weekend! Enjoy a brand new, two-hour show packed with all your favourite hits for a rockin’ good time! Tickets can be purchased through the Century Casino website.

9) Human Foosball Festival for Mental Health | August 28
Enjoy a day of fun activities, food, motivational guest speakers, and more while supporting Prosper Place in its mission to help those in Edmonton living with mental health and addictions issues. Register a team for human foosball and take your team to victory! Register your team through the Prosper Place website.

10) Together Again Outdoor Concert Series | August 29
Enjoy another great concert at the Edmonton Exhibition Lands! This night’s lineup includes Dean Brody, Blue Rodeo, Our Lady Peace, Serena Ryder, The Trews & more. Tickets for tables are available as well as limited quantities of individual seats. Enjoy reserved seating at tableside service—every seat is a VIP seat!

11) Allstate Soccer Show: Live Online | August 29
This free, virtual all-day event includes one-on-one meetings with soccer icons, Q&A panels, interactive games and sessions, prizes, and more! This event is perfect for the whole family! Register online to participate.

12) Edwardsen Family’s Fresh Lemonade Stand | August 29
Support a refreshingly sweet cause with this lemonade stand, running at Delux Burger Bar Crestwood on August 19 from 11 am to 4 pm. The Edwardsen family will be selling lemonade, homemade Rice Krispie treats, dog treats, and more. All proceeds will go to Stollery Children’s Hospital, benefitting sick kids in our community!

13) Bok Brass Quintet | August 29
This quintet of classically-trained musicians has been delighting audiences across Alberta since 2014; catch them at Sherwood Park’s Festival Place for a one-night-only concert! Their repertoire covers a wide range of genres, including renaissance up to the present day. Contact the Festival Place box office for your FREE ticket!
