It’s the final weekend before Christmas! Whether you are finishing your holiday shopping, hitting the town, or spending some quality time with family, we’ve got you covered with these Edmonton events.

Get outside and Check out one of Edmonton’s Ice Rinks

What’s more festive than a thermos of hot cocoa and some ice skating? Head down to City Hall Plaza between 6:00 – 9:00 on December 16 for Bright Light Skate Night, a night of free fun for the whole family! On top of their recently opened skating rink, this event will feature hot chocolate, music, and newly launched temporary art installations by Canadian artists.

There’s another unique opportunity to hit the ice this weekend at the Winter Wonderland Holiday Market! Thanks to Festival of Trees and the University Hospital Foundation, RE/MAX Field will be bustling with festive action. Check it out for indoor and outdoor activities, including a selection of beautifully decorated trees. And don’t forget your ice skates!

Edmonton is filled with unique spots to skate, read more about 4 of our favourite spots here.

MOI: Momentum of Isolation | December 16 & 17

For the second show in their 44th season, Brian Webb Dance Company is tackling social isolation and loneliness through a moving presentation that combines dance with interactive video and sound. Choreographed by Alberta-born Shay Kuebler, MOI asks audiences to consider the moments of loneliness that permeate our evolving society, as well as the fundamental role that technology plays in this alienation. Join them at the Timms Centre for the Arts for a memorable night of dance.

Last Call: Christmas Markets | December 16 & 17

This weekend is your last chance to shop local at several Edmonton Christmas markets! Head down to the Enjoy Centre on Saturday for the St. Albert Christmas Market, which features over 250 local vendors! Selling everything from local baked goods to handmade jewelry, this is the perfect spot to pick up some last minute Christmas gifts.

The Edmonton Downtown Farmers’ Market is also hosting their Christmas Market for the final weekend. On top of their permanent vendors on the main floor, this market is hosting 20 additional local businesses selling handmade items. They are also running their 1st ever Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, so dust off your best (or worst!) Christmas sweater for a chance to win! The market is currently accepting donations of socks and mittens for the Mustard Seed.

A Christmas Past | December 18

Step into the past with one of Edmonton’s best historic sites this Sunday. Rutherford House will be serving warm cider and delicious old fashioned treats in their historic kitchen. This provincial historic site was the home of the first Premier of Alberta. Currently, they offer visitors a chance to experience an Edwardian-era home with guided tours and costumed interpreters. Girl Brain | December 16 – 18

Edmonton-based sketch comedy troupe Girl Brain is back! Dedicated to exploring “all the finest and goriest bits of a Girl’s Brain,” this show stars Alyson Dicey, Ellie Heath, and Caley Suliak. Their special holiday themed show promises to provide a healthy dose of festive cheer and is the perfect event to round out your weekend. There will also be tarot card readings before the show and during intermission.
