Looking for your next weekend adventure? We’ve got you covered! Here’s what’s on this weekend in Edmonton.

Flying CanoË Volant | February 3–4

This nighttime festival takes its name from a French legend shared with First Nations peoples. In the legend, a French nobleman loved to hunt so much that he skipped Sunday mass and was cursed to wander the night skies forever in a flying canoe pursued by howling wolves. Perhaps you’ll spot him as you wander the Mill Creek Ravine, enjoying music, bannock roasting, and Indigenous art.

This year’s festival also includes the classic illuminated trails in Mill Creek Ravine, live music at various venues, and a cabaret featuring local artists! Visit their website for a full schedule of events.

Toque | February 3

Since its founding in 2012, Toque has been paying homage to Canadian classic rock. This band made a name for itself with impeccable covers of iconic songs by Loverboy, Streetheart, Prism, and more! Check them out at Century Casino for a celebration of homegrown tunes.

BMW (Belzner, McLean, and Williams) at the Yardbird Suite | January 3

Are you a fan of blues music? If so, then a visit to The Yardbird Suite this weekend is a must! Kevin Belzner, Big Dave McLean, and Tim Williams are teaming up to wow audiences with their smooth sound. With their signature charisma and amazing musical ability, this is a show that can’t be missed.

After Faust | February 3 & 4

Presented as a part of RISER 2023, this show goes beyond the well-known story of Doctor Faustus. Instead, audiences can expect a journey of forgiveness and self-transformation filled with moments of grief, yearning, and queer allegory. After Faust is perfomed in ASL by a deaf cast, making it one of the first Deaf-written, produced, directed, and acted stage production in recent Albertan history!

Sweet Treats & Latte Festival | February 4–20

The Old Strathcona Business Association is returning with a sweet culinary festival! 17 different business around the Whyte Ave area will be providing special sweet treats for you to indulge in. This year’s line-up includes old favourites like Black Forest Mini-Tarts from Pablo Cheese Tart and exciting new additions including Korean-style Macarons from Ancaron Macaron. This year’s festival is also exciting because it features treats for your furry friends from both Global Pet Foods and Bone & Biscuit! Check out the festival’s website for a full list of participating businesses and a handy interactive map!

The Royale | February 4–19

Based on the life of the first Black heavyweight world champion, Marco Ramirez’s The Royale opens at the Citadel Theatre this weekend. Audiences will follow Jay “The Sport” Jackson as he navigates the racially segregated world of boxing. A story filled with heart and candor, join Jay as he embarks on his journey to become the world’s undisputed heavyweight champion.
