You don’t have to venture far to find something fun to do in Edmonton this weekend. In fact, you don’t even have to leave the house! Whether you’re going out or staying in, here’s what’s on in Edmonton this weekend. As always, stay safe and follow all health guidelines as you take in the best of the city.

Seven public gifts of art have been installed around downtown as part of Mamanaw Pekiswewina | Mother Tongues: amiskwacîwâskahikan, just one of the events you can check out this weekend!

1) Mamanaw Pekiswewina | Mother Tongues: amiskwacîwâskahikan
All throughout downtown amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton), look for seven public gifts of art celebrating seven of the traditional indigenous languages of Treaty 6: Inuktun (Inuvialakun and Inuktitut), Nêhiyawêwin, Nitsiipowahsiin, Michif, Denesųłiné, Nahkawiwin and Nakota.

2) Free Wheelin’ Food Truck Fest | May 7
Get your food truck fix with this all-ages event at the Kingsway Mall parking lot! Enjoy food from some of your favourite food trucks and street food merchants while supporting local business and kicking off the summer season.

3) Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks & Montreal Canadiens | May 8 & 10
With Edmonton in the playoffs, there’s lots more hockey action on the horizon! Get ready for two games this weekend: on Saturday, May 8 at 8 pm, the Oilers face off against the Canucks, and on Monday, May 10 at 5 pm, they take on the Montreal Canadiens. Catch all the action from home, and make sure to get your 50/50 tickets the day of the game!

4) Teddy Bear Fun Fest | May 8–14
It’s a festival right in your backyard with this full week of fun activities and challenges for kids. Register through the Teddy Bear Fest website to receive daily emails with ideas for scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, crafts, and more. All proceeds go to support the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

5) Mother’s Day! | May 9
Many of Edmonton’s best restaurants and caterers are bringing the gourmet experience to you with special take-out meal boxes and assemble-at-home kits. Whether it’s brunch, high tea, dinner, or sweet gifts that you’re looking for, there’s something for every mother figure.

6) Friends of University Hospital’s Spring Art Auction | Until May 9
Through this virtual auction, you can find the perfect piece for your wall while supporting University Hospital and their healthcare heroes. Enter the silent auction, or, if you just have to have a certain piece, you can pay a “buy it now” price. The auction ends Sunday, May 9th, so be sure to place your bids ASAP!

7)  Edmonton Jewish Film Festival | Until May 11

8) Northwest International Documentary Film Festival | Until May 16
Western Canada’s premiere nonfiction film festival is online this year, with a variety of films on their digital menu. Categories include Made in Canada, Perspective Alberta, Music Docs, Global Visions, Made in the USA, and Shorts Packages.
