With summer in full swing, there’s no shortage of amazing events to check out this weekend. Here’s what’s on in Edmonton!
1) Motorbikus Mechanicus… A Love Story | Opens July 1
Explore all things motorcycle at Motorbikus Mechanicus, the Reynolds-Alberta Museum’s newest exhibit! Take a tour through the history of Canada’s finest motorcycle training programs, see the inner workings of a motorcycle, and much more, with over 30 historical motorbikes on display.
2) Royal Alberta Museum | Reopens July 1
The Royal Alberta Museum has reopened! Enjoy all-new exhibits like Abandoned Alberta, Quilt of Belonging, and more, as well as old favourites like the Human History Hall. Stay tuned for even more exhibits and events on the way!
3) Telus World of Science—Edmonton | Reopens July 1
The Telus World of Science is back to bring you the thrill of scientific discovery! Get up close and personal with dinosaurs and the history of paleontology with the Expedition: Dinosaur exhibit and Dinosaurs of Antarctica 3D at the IMAX theatre. Plus, take in one of several amazing shows in the Ziedler Dome planetarium!
4) The Backyard Opening Night | July 2
The Backyard’s opening night has been moved to Friday, July 2nd at 5 pm! With a live painting demonstration and auction, local musicians, food trucks, door prizes and more, celebrate the weekend at the grand opening of the ICE District’s newest event space! Tickets are available through the Backyard’s website.
5) Edmonton Stingers Basketball | July 2 & 5
The Edmonton Stingers take to the court for two games this weekend: the 2020 CEBL champions take on the the Niagara River Lions on Friday, July 2nd at 7pm and the Ottawa Blackjacks on Monday, July 5th at 7:30 pm. Tune in on game day through the CEBL website, or catch the games in person at the Edmonton Expo Centre!
6) DJ Mikey Wong at the Backyard | July 3
This Saturday night, head over to the Backyard for night of food and fun! DJ Mikey Wong will perform from 7 to 11 pm; take in the all-ages show while grabbing delicious eats from Sir Winston’s Fish and Chips.
7) Motorcycle Track Attack Days | July 3–4
This is a chance to for experienced and novice motorcycle riders alike to enjoy the thrills of riding an indoor track at Castrol Raceway. Hone your skills without having to worry about traffic or hot weather! Get your tickets online.
8) A Strike of Hope | July 4
The Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton is hosting their first live concert of 2021 at Borden Park! ‘A Strike of Hope’ features works by Joseph C. Lai, Haydn, and Mozart, including a solo performance by Rafael Hoekman on cello. While the concert is free, donations are much appreciated. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will be relocated to St. Andrew’s United Church, 9915-148 Street.
9) McCauley Porch Concerts | July 4
Join singer-songwriter Ann Vriend, better known as AV, for her community based “Porch Concerts” series. Ann’s porch concerts are partially hosted by McCauley residents who take pride in bringing the community, and those outside of it, together. Come out to support local talent and join in on community spirit.
10) Canada Scapes & Spaces Art Show | Until August 31
Take a walk across Canada through the eyes of some of its most talented artists with this exhibit and art show at Picture This Gallery, featuring the works of Cameron Bird, Holly Carr, and more. Canada Scapes & Spaces features dozens of works celebrating Canada’s landscapes, seascapes, and everything in between.
