This weekend marks the official start of summer! Old favourites reopen, new performances take to the stage and the screen, and Father’s Day and Indigenous Peoples Day mean lots of events for families to enjoy. Here’s what’s on this weekend in Edmonton!
1) Jubefest Drive-In Comedy | June 18–19
Get ready to laugh along from the comfort of your car as stand-up comedy comes to the roof of the Jubilee Auditorium! You can buy your tickets online; as concessions are currently closed, be sure to preorder a curated snack pack full of local tasty goodies. Friday’s show features Cory Mack and Lars Callieou, and Saturday’s headliners are Sterling Scott and Andrew Grose.
2) HEISENBERG | June 18–20
Two people find themselves drawn together against the odds in Shadow Theatre’s production of Simon Stephens’ HEISENBERG. The play is available for viewing through Broadway on Demand; register and access the show through the Shadow Theatre website.
3) Whyte Avenue Art Market | June 18–20
Visit the Army & Navy building on Whyte Avenue to browse and purchase original art from dozens of talented local artists! Book your tickets in advance through the Art Walk website.
4) National Indigenous Peoples Day Events | June 19 & June 21
This weekend, you’ll find lots of events to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st and Indigenous history month. You can find out more about all these events, both virtual and in-person, here.
5) Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village reopens | June 19
The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village has reopened! Make the trip out to their 30-building living museum in Lamont County to learn more about the life and culture of Ukrainian newcomers to Canada in the early 20th century.
6) The Art Gallery of Alberta reopens | June 19–20
The Art Gallery of Alberta reopens to members on Saturday, June 19th and to the general public on Sunday, June 20th. In honour of Indigenous Peoples day and to celebrate their reopening, the AGA is offering free admission for their Sunday opening. 7) Art Kolo for Kids | June 19
This kolo, or circle, invites kids to take part in traditional Ukrainian crafts, activities, and stories, led by local artist Sofia Lukie. Join the free kolo live on YouTube every Thursday from 6 pm–6:30 pm and in-person on Saturdays from 1 pm–3 pm on the east side of the Nina Haggerty Gallery (weather permitting).
8) ACUA’s Annual Ukrainian Vintage Fair | June 19
You’ll find pretty much anything and everything Ukrainian at this vintage market: art, costumes, pysanky eggs, pottery, and more! Items remaining after the fair will be available for sale until the end of August.
9) Father’s Day Events | June 20

10) Summer Solstice Forest Therapy Walk | June 21
Relax, recharge, and ring in the summer solstice with Mala Wellness Collective as you journey through Terwilegar Park on a forest therapy walk! You can register for this 2.5 hour session through the Mala Wellness Collective website.
