Sports, arts, or both? You’ve got plenty of amazing events to choose from—here’s what’s on in Edmonton this weekend!

The Boy and the Braid, directed by Alyssa Alook, is one of eight short films by Indigenous creators being shown at this weekend’s ESSF w/ Indigenous Films—just one of the amazing events taking place in Edmonton this weekend!

1) Lars Callieou at the Comic Strip | June 24–27
Lars Callieou returns to his home club, The Comic Strip, from Thursday, June 24th to Sunday, June 27th. Don’t miss out on a night of live, in-person laughter with one of Edmonton’s greatest comedians! You can book your tickets through the Comic Strip website.

2) Alberta Circus Arts Festival | June 25–27
Catch performances, workshops, panels, and more from circus artists across Alberta and across Canada with the first-ever Alberta Circus Arts Festival, hosted by Firefly Theatre and Circus! For their inaugural year, the festival will be held entirely online. You can get your tickets for festival shows and workshops, including a festival pass for all 3 shows, through Firefly’s Ticketleap page.

3) Saturday Summer Yoga Series | June 26
The Backyard‘s inaugural Summer Yoga Series kicks off this Saturday! Join instructor Bonnie Parkes for an hour of relaxation, rejuvenation, and mindfulness, perfect for beginners and experts alike. Classes run from 10 – 11 am and 11:30 am – 12:30 pm.

4) Edmonton Stingers Basketball | June 26
Following their 2020 Canadian Elite Basketball League championship, the Edmonton Stingers return to the court with their first match of the season against the Hamilton Honey Badgers! Catch the game live on air or on the web, starting Saturday, June 26th at 2 pm.

5) ESFF w/ Indigenous Films | June 26–28
The Edmonton Short Film Festival, in partnership with Dreamspeakers Festival Society, invites you to ESFF w/ Indigenous Films in celebration of National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous People’s Day. This free event features a lineup of 8 incredible short films created by Indigenous artists.Though tickets for the outdoor, in-person viewing are sold out, you can still catch all of these films online for free. Select the online option when you register through Eventbrite.

6) Stonewall March and Rally | June 28
The Edmonton community is invited to stand in solidarity with the victims of police brutality and gender-based violence for a march and rally on Treaty 6, a peaceful protest and celebration of Black trans and non-binary lives. The event will take place online and outside in person, beginning with a march to Churchill Square followed by speakers, performers, and a vigil celebration.
