What’s On This Weekend (Mar 17–19)

Posted March 17, 2023 by Editorial

St. Patrick’s Day events, a festival highlighting francophone films, and tons of opportunities to sample some of downtown Edmonton’s best dishes. Get ready for another weekend in our vibrant city! Here’s what’s on.

Sample some of downtown Edmonton’s best dishes at Downtown Dining Week.

The Carrot by Moonlight | March 18–19

Join this community coffeehouse for their annual fundraiser! Complete with live music and top-notch wine and cheese pairings, this event is the perfect way to spend your evening while supporting a good cause.

Cherry Cult Fest | March 17–19

Rock out with 3 nights of music, art, and fashion in the heart of downtown Edmonton. On top of performances by LA duo Tremours and Edmonton’s own Verttigo, this event will feature a vintage market and an art auction. Join them at Brighton Block (9666 Jasper Ave.) on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am–5:00pm, before heading over to The Dive Bar (9692 Jasper Ave.) for a packed night of local music. Check out the festival’s Instagram for more info.

Downtown Dining Week | Until March 26

Downtown Edmonton is filled with culinary gems and now is your chance to sample them all! Edmonton’s best restaurants will be offering multi-course menus at varying price points. There’s tons of options to choose from: delight in a tender bone-in pork chops from The Marc, sample Bar Bricco‘s innovative tasting menu, or try Continental Treat‘s legendary dill pickle soup and Viennese schnitzel.

St. Patrick’s Day Events | Various

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Edmonton! No matter how you plan to celebrate, there’s an event for you. Looking to enjoy some live music? Fancy a late night dance party? An evening of laughs with local comedians? There’s tons of fun to explore. Read more here.

Pride and Prejudice | Until April 2

One of literature’s most famous love stories is taking the stage at The Citadel Theatre this weekend! Adapted by playwright by Kate Hamill, Pride and Prejudice follows Elizabeth Bennet and her family as she navigates love, marriage, and societal expectations. This unique adaptation of a classic tale is directed by The Citadel’s Associate Artistic Director Mieko Ouchi. Enjoy hilarious hijinks with this memorable night of theatre!

Plus, there’s even more live theatre taking over the city this weekend. Head down to The Varscona Theatre to check out Shadow Theatre’s All the Little Animals I Have Eaten, which follows a young server on the most harrowing shift of her life. You can also catch Joni Mitchell’s Songs of a Prairie Girl, an inventive new musical that follows five artists as they reflect on the life, music, and art of a Canadian icon.

French Film Festival | March 18–20

To celebrate International Day of La Francophonie, Alliance Française of Edmonton has partnered with Metro Cinema to bring a series of films that centres the French language. They will be screening a variety of titles including the family-friendly Little Nicolas (March 18 at 1:00pm), a touching story of friendship, learning, and childhood. Plus, kids 12 and under receive free admission! Check out Metro’s website for more details and a full schedule.

Ukrainian Jam | March 19

Enjoy a showcase of live Ukrainian music at Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts this weekend! This free event will feature a selection of emerging musicians, including Steven Pankiw, Brandon Hachkowski, and the St. Nicholas Mandolin Ensemble.
