Another weekend, another opportunity to enjoy our amazing city! Here’s what’s on this weekend.

2023 Edmonton Jewish Film Festival | May 7–18

Hosted by the Jewish Federation of Edmonton, this festival invites audiences to discover, connect, and engage with Jewish stories, histories, and traditions. Through a combination of virtual and in-person screenings, there’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy these films! This weekend’s schedule includes a virtual event featuring Schächten, an Austrian film that follows a young Jewish businessman who witnesses the failed prosecution of a Nazi concentration camp commandant and takes matters into his own hands. The festival will also be offering in-person screenings next week so make sure to check out their website for a full schedule!

Theatre, Theatre, and more Theatre! | Various

Avid theatregoers and newbies rejoice–Edmonton’s stages are buzzing with activity this weekend! There’s so many shows to explore this weekend, including The Citadel Theatre’s Prison Dancer, an inventive new musical based on a viral video from 2007, when 1,500 inmates in a Philippines prison danced to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

This weekend is also your last chance to catch some amazing shows by local theatre companies, including Shadow Theatre’s 10 Funerals, Punctuate Theatre’s The First Métis Man of Odesa, Walterdale Theatre’s The Penelopiad, and Theatre Network’s Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes. With so many options, there’s something on stage for everyone! Don’t miss out on any of these amazing shows.

Rock out at The Yardbird Suite | Various

Do you like jazz? If so, head down to The Yardbird Suite to delight in nationally recognized musicians and newcomers alike! This weekend’s lineup includes the Brandon Issak Trio, The Marco Claveria Project, and an emerging artist showcase with local band SOUR.
