Hockey is back in the public eye in a big way after a brief hiatus. It’s time for the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs! Selected as one of only two hub cities, Edmonton is hosting teams from the Western Conference—and will ultimately be where the Stanley Cup finalists face off. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, fans cannot flock to the arena to watch in person, but Edmonton still provides plenty of other ways for fans to show their support and get excited.
EDMONTON HOCKEY STOP #1: ROGERS PLACE
Rogers Place is the host of all NHL and WHL games, and some of the most enthusiastic and dedicated sports fans. And right now, it’s host to the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and all of the NHL teams from the Western Conference! It’s also where the Stanley Cup finals will play. It’s currently closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions, but you can still check out the architecture and take a photo with the iconic Wayne Gretzky bronze statue outside.

EDMONTON HOCKEY STOP #2: UNITED CYCLE
Pose for a legendary photo next to the giant Stanley Cup Replica, located outside United Cycle at 76th Avenue and Gateway Boulevard. While you’re there, pop into the store to browse United’s extensive selection of sporting equipment and apparel, including authentic NHL jerseys, Pride Tape, and everything you need to play the game yourself.

EDMONTON HOCKEY STOP #3: ROYAL ALBERTA MUSEUM
One of Canada’s most popular museums, the Royal Alberta Museum offers a full range of exhibitions and activities for every age group, and you can regularly find some of the finest cultural and natural history collections across the country. In the Human History Hall, find out more about the golden age of the Edmonton Oilers, including a look at vintage jerseys and Gretzky memorabilia.

EDMONTON HOCKEY STOP #4: PRO AM SPORTS
Jerseys, car flags, signed photos and equipment, headwear, memorabilia, and accessories are available at Pro Am Sports—the sports memorabilia store for sports fans. They’ve got a variety of goods for NHL, NFL, NBA, and more. Ready for this year’s playoffs, they created alternate jerseys to honour the heritages of two Oilers Players, with name bars displaying Cree syllabics for Ethan Bear and Japanese characters for Kailer Yamamoto.

The renowned Ice Palace is an NHL-sized rink in the middle of West Edmonton Mall. It usually offers daily recreational public skating and skate rentals, though COVID-19 has affected its current operating hours—at the time of this posting, the Ice Palace is available for group bookings and exclusive rentals only.

EDMONTON HOCKEY STOP #7: MURALS
The City of Edmonton’s Mural Program includes two official hockey-related artworks. One mural outside Russel Metals (7016–99 St.) depicts beloved Edmonton Oiler Hockey Club member Joey Moss, who began working with the team’s training staff in 1984 and was presented with the NHL Alumni Association’s “Seventh Man Award” in 2003. The other, called The Sportscasters, immortalizes five local broadcasters and the sports they covered for years, and is located on the Capilano Centre north wall (10050–50 St.).
