Black Futures: Creating While Black

February 2

The Interdisciplinary Dialogue is an annual teaching and learning project at MacEwan that invites students, faculty, staff and the public to explore social justice issues together across a semester. This year, the project theme is RECOVERY — with its uncertainties, complexities and possibilities.

At the second event in this program, Rochelle Ignacio (Black Owned Market), Alain Intwali (Black Owned Market), and Bobby Tyndale (Version Me Media), will explore the added layers of complexity when creating while Black. How does one’s Blackness impact their ability to master digital content and storytelling or grow a grassroots organization into a sustainable business model? Being Black means you’ll navigate life differently. Whether finding creative solutions to internal differences, or battling external challenges such as overt racism, creative entrepreneurs require resiliency to see themselves through the other side.
