Body Language: Reawakening Cultural Tattooing of the Northwest

December 1, 2020 - May 2, 2021

Featuring the artwork of five Indigenous tattoo artists, it is the first exhibition to fully explore the rich history and artistry of Indigenous tattooing, piercing, and personal adornment on the Northwest Coast.

The five contemporary Indigenous artists featured are Nakkita Trimble (Nisga’a), Nahaan (Tlingit), Corey Bulpitt (Haida), and Dean Hunt (Heiltsuk). The artworks are reflective of their own experiences where tattoo creations have provided healing, protection, and a profound sense of belonging.
