Colton Hash’s artistic interests arise from tensions that exist between organic and mechanical systems in physical and conceptual spaces. While some of his projects engage directly with topics of industrialization and environmental degradation, others operate through abstractions of the imposed frameworks that attempt to structure the living world. He utilizes his proficiency with media technology to realize immersive visions of potential futures. Hash is interested in science fiction and world-building in the digital realm, as well as working with data-driven abstractions to represent our relationships to the natural world. Engaging with various practices of object making, the artist creates projects that are balanced within the spectrum of fine art and craft. Throughout his practice, Hash seeks to embrace complexity as a divergence from reductionism, creating accessible works that are enriched by environmental, social and experiential imperatives.
