ESO Classics: Dvorák & Shostakovich

March 18

Dvo?ák’s cheerful and upbeat Symphony No. 8 will leave you smiling and humming the folklike tunes that are a tribute to his beloved Bohemia. From Shostakovich’s musical signature to energetic folk melodies, his Cello Concerto No. 1 is a tour de force for the instrument. Florence Price is at last getting the attention she deserves. These Dances capture the Black American experience including Joplin-like rags and theatrical ballroom dances popular in the South in the early 1900s.
