Learn Downtown: Travelling Nature Exchange

August 24

Join?TELUS World of Science Educators?Jenny Niemi and Tara Beck for the Travelling Nature Exchange – a look into inquiry-based learning, journaling, and the Nature Exchange Program.

This session is part of Learn Downtown, a City of Learners speaker series offering bite-size learning opportunities downtown. Complimentary lunch will be provided in support by The Downtown Vibrancy Strategy.

The Travelling Nature Exchange is an interactive, hands-on session with the TELUS World of Science Edmonton. This program takes EPL’s Nature Exchange gallery into the community. The Nature Exchange provides opportunities for meaningful connection with the life, land and stories of our beautiful city. Feel free to bring your trades to this engaging conversation about the natural world.

Tara Beck has been curious about connection from a young age: connections among people, connections to place, connections through story, and connections with science. With over 20 years of experience in informal education, Tara has worked with government agencies, environmental not for profit groups, school divisions, science centres, museums and cultural institutions. She sees infinite engagement potential in every natural and built environment and is endlessly fascinated by deep connections between people, place, and science.?

Jenny Niemi has worked at the TELUS World of Science for over four years, most recently as an Outreach Education Specialist in the Science in Motion team. Jenny has been working with the Nature Exchange since it opened in 2019 and now takes the program to schools outside Edmonton. She is passionate about forests, insects, policy, and all of the fun bits of nature we have in Alberta! In her spare time, Jenny can be found camping, birding, or learning to hand quilt.
