Pandemic!: A Cautionary Tale
January 22 - March 24
During the 100th anniversary of the worldwide Spanish Influenza pandemic in 1918–19, this exhibit looks back on the impact of this and other global illnesses that changed the course of history .
St. Albert was faced with two earlier epidemics in the late 19th century. When smallpox came to the community in 1870, it killed 300 people, one-third of the population. Fifteen years later, diphtheria struck. At the Mission, the Oblates and Grey Nuns worked tirelessly, providing medicine and comfort during these tragedies.
Pandemic! also looks at more recent diseases—such as Polio, HIV, Swine Flu and Ebola. It examines what we have learned from past events and what science is doing to stay one step ahead of a future pandemic.
