“During a studio session the paint and graphite are often flying and there’s a dance that happens. It’s often an awkward frustrated strange sort of dance , sometimes a bit wild. Then at some point comes the need to step back from the image, the expression becomes more efficient and thoughtful, neither restrained nor random.
The last year and half have been for me, as for many others, a time where I was forced to slow down and settle. Removing the constant extraneous stimulation typical of ‘normal’ life allowed me to focus on the internal rather than the external, the existing rather than the impending. I took these lessons into the studio, revisiting materials, re-evaluating artistic intent and reframing original inspirations.
