Since 2004 WindRose Trio has self-produced recitals featuring the most demanding music in the reed trio repertoire. Their playing has inspired many local composers to write new works for them, including Joseph Lai, Roger Deegan, John McPherson, Alissa Cheung, Thom Golub, and Charles Stolte, George Andrix, Nova Pon, and Ian Crutchley. Their CD “Path of Contact” was recorded with support from the AFA and in 2009 it received a Western Canadian Music Award for Best Classical Recording. It features music by Villa-Lobos, Peter Schikele, Violet Archer, and Roger Deegan and continues to receive radio air-play. WindRose was delighted to play a recital of Canadian Music for reed trio at the International Double Reed Society 2015 Conference in Tokyo, Japan. In 2016 they were the first Canadian ensemble to play at the UNESCO recognized international summer music festival in Harbin, China.
